Can you take the citizenship test in Spanish?
Only under the age and residence exceptions. Everyone else takes the civics test in English and also takes the English test. Here are the rules in USCIS's words, what USCIS publishes in Spanish, and how to practice in Spanish either way.
Who may answer the civics questions in Spanish
USCIS lists two exceptions to the English requirement: "Age 50 or older at the time of filing for naturalization and have lived as a permanent resident (Green Card holder) in the United States for 20 years (commonly referred to as the "50/20" exception)." and "Age 55 or older at the time of filing for naturalization and have lived as a permanent resident in the United States for 15 years (commonly referred to as the "55/15" exception)." For them: "You will be permitted to take the civics test in your native language." "If you take the test in your native language, you must bring an interpreter with you to your interview." "Your interpreter must be fluent in both English and your native language." At 65 with 20 years as a permanent resident there is also the special consideration of 20 marked questions in the language of your choice (the rules for seniors).
Everyone else: the test is in English
If you do not qualify for an exception, the civics test is in English and you also take the English test: "You must read aloud one out of three sentences correctly to demonstrate an ability to read in English." "You must write one out of three sentences correctly to demonstrate an ability to write in English." Practicing in Spanish still helps you learn the content; then learn the English wording of the answers, which Civico shows under every Spanish line.
What USCIS publishes in Spanish
USCIS publishes its own Spanish translation of the 100 questions of the 2008 test. For the 2025 test, USCIS's Spanish study page links the 128 questions to the English PDF; there is no official Spanish 2025 list (checked Oct. 25, 2026). Civico's Spanish for the 2025 list is our translation, shown with the official English under each line, and reuses USCIS's own Spanish where a question is identical to the 2008 list.
